I HAVE A DISC HERNIATION, NOW WHAT?

If you have been diagnosed with a disc herniation or a disc bulge, you may be feeling worried about your health and your ability to enjoy your favorite activities. You may have heard that these conditions are serious and require surgery or medication. However, there is another option that can help you heal naturally and safely: chiropractic care.

Chiropractic care is a form of alternative medicine that focuses on the alignment and function of the spine and the nervous system. Chiropractors use gentle adjustments, exercises, and other therapies to correct spinal misalignments, reduce inflammation, and restore normal nerve flow. By doing so, they can help your body heal itself from various conditions, including disc herniations and disc bulges.

WHAT IS A DISC HERNIATION/BULGE?

The discs are cushions between the vertebrae that have a tough outer layer (annulus fibrosus) and a soft inner layer (nucleus pulposus). A disc herniation occurs when the outer layer tears and the inner layer leaks out into the spinal canal, compressing or irritating the nerve roots. A disc bulge occurs when the inner layer pushes against the outer layer, but does not rupture it, causing the disc to sag or protrude into the spinal canal.

Both of these conditions can cause pressure on the spinal cord or the nerve roots, resulting in pain, numbness, tingling, weakness, or loss of function in the affected area. Depending on the location and severity of the disc problem, you may experience symptoms in your neck, back, arms, legs, or buttocks.

HOW CAN A CHIROPRACTOR HELP ME?

Chiropractic care can help you with disc herniations and disc bulges by addressing the root cause of the problem: spinal misalignment. When your spine is out of alignment, it can create stress and tension on the discs, making them more prone to injury and degeneration. Chiropractors can use specific adjustments to realign your spine and relieve the pressure on the discs. This can help reduce the inflammation and swelling around the discs, allowing them to heal and reabsorb into their normal position.

One of the best things about chiropractic care is that it does not mean you have to stop doing your favorite activities. In fact, chiropractic care can help you enjoy them more by improving your mobility, function, and quality of life. Whether you love playing sports, gardening, hiking, or dancing, chiropractic care can help you do them without pain or limitations. Of course, you should always consult with your chiropractor before engaging in any physical activity to make sure it is safe and appropriate for your condition.
