Introducing Shockwave Therapy to Move Well Chiropractic & Rehab
If you’ve been dealing with pain that just won’t go away, even after stretching, resting, or trying other treatments, you’re not alone. Many chronic injuries take longer to heal because the body’s natural healing response slows down over time.
That’s why I’m excited to introduce Shockwave Therapy at Move Well Chiropractic & Rehab!

What Is Shockwave Therapy?
Shockwave therapy is a non-invasive treatment that uses high-energy acoustic (sound) waves to stimulate your body’s natural healing process. Unlike injections or surgery, shockwave therapy works by encouraging your body to repair damaged tissue from the inside out.
The sound waves help:
- Increase blood flow to injured tissues
- Stimulate cellular repair and collagen production
- Break down scar tissue and calcifications
- Reduce chronic pain
- Improve mobility and function
Most treatments take only a few minutes, and there is little to no downtime afterward.
How Is It Different From Other Treatments?
Many patients ask how shockwave therapy compares to treatments like muscle scraping, manual therapy, cupping, or therapeutic ultrasound.
The answer is simple: they all have different jobs.
Muscle Scraping (IASTM)
Muscle scraping uses specialized tools to improve the movement of muscles and fascia. It’s excellent for reducing soft tissue restrictions, improving mobility, and helping muscles move more freely.

Manual Therapy
Hands-on techniques help release tight muscles, reduce trigger points, and restore normal movement. Manual therapy is great for relieving muscle tension and improving flexibility.

Cupping
Cupping creates gentle suction that lifts the tissues, increases circulation, and helps reduce muscle tightness and fascial restrictions.

Therapeutic Ultrasound
Therapeutic ultrasound uses sound waves to gently warm tissues, helping improve circulation and tissue flexibility while reducing discomfort.

Shockwave Therapy
Shockwave therapy has a different goal. Rather than simply improving tissue mobility or decreasing muscle tension, it helps restart the healing process in tissues that have become slow to recover. It’s especially effective for chronic tendon injuries and areas where healing has stalled.
Think of it this way:
- Manual therapy, scraping, cupping, and ultrasound help the tissues move and feel better.
- Shockwave therapy helps encourage the damaged tissue to actually heal.
In many cases, these treatments work even better when combined as part of a comprehensive treatment plan.
What Conditions Can Shockwave Therapy Help?
Shockwave therapy has been shown to be effective for many chronic musculoskeletal conditions, including:
- Plantar fasciitis
- Achilles tendinopathy
- Tennis elbow
- Golfer’s elbow
- Patellar tendinopathy (jumper’s knee)
- Rotator cuff tendinopathy
- Shoulder pain
- Hip pain
- Chronic muscle tightness
- Calcific tendonitis
- Scar tissue and stubborn soft tissue injuries

If you’ve had pain for several months and haven’t found lasting relief, shockwave therapy may be a great option.
What Does Treatment Feel Like?
Most patients describe the treatment as a series of rapid pulses or tapping sensations over the injured area. Some areas can be tender during treatment, especially if they’re particularly irritated, but sessions are brief and the intensity can be adjusted based on your comfort.
After treatment, it’s normal to feel some soreness for a day or two — similar to how you might feel after a good workout. This is a sign that your body is responding to the treatment and beginning the healing process.
Is Shockwave Therapy Right for You?
Every patient is different, which is why I perform a thorough evaluation before recommending any treatment. Sometimes chiropractic adjustments, rehabilitation exercises, and manual therapy are all that’s needed. Other times, adding shockwave therapy can help accelerate healing and improve long-term results.
My goal is always to choose the treatments that best fit your condition — not to add therapies you don’t need.
If you’ve been living with stubborn pain that just isn’t improving, let’s talk about whether shockwave therapy could be the missing piece in your recovery.
